Maps of the Canary Islands, Spain

Tenerife – Canary Islands, Spain

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, majestically crowned by the stunning Teide volcano – the highest mountain in Spain at 3,178 metres above sea level. Tenerife offers something for all tastes, from the bustling touristic south, with its impressive beaches and arid landscape, to the quiet, fertile interior dotted with little villages and picturesque farmhouses. The capital of the island is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a busy, yet pleasant, costal city to the North-East of the island.

Gran Canaria – Canary Islands, Spain

Gran Canaria is the second largest island, with an astounding variety of landscapes and vegetation that has earned it the title of ‘continent in miniature’. Gran Canaria’s touristic area once again lies to the laid-back south of the island, where the pleasant climate – with up to 50 weeks of sunshine a year – attracts people from all over Europe and beyond. On the other hand, Gran Canaria’s capital, Las Palmas, is a lively cosmopolitan city and with a vibrant and varied nightlife and plenty to offer, including the beautiful beach of Las Canteras.

Fuerteventura – Canary Islands, Spain

Fuerteventura is considered to be the island with the most amazing beaches in all of Europe, with a coastline boasting over 150 beaches and 50km of dazzling white sand. This paradise island is a favourite with surfers and wind surfers who visit Fuerteventura in search of the perfect wind and sea conditions for their sport. If you are looking to get away from it all to an oasis of peace and tranquillity, Fuerteventura may be just what you’re after!

Lanzarote – Canary Islands, Spain

The volcanic origins of Lanzarote – the easternmost of the Canary Islands – could not be more evident. In fact, Lanzarote is famous for its stunning lunar landscapes of ash and lava, laid down by centuries of volcanic activity. Despite being the driest of the islands, the inhabitants of Lanzarote manage, through their hard work, to cultivate a variety of crops almost as if by magic.

La Palma – Canary Islands, Spain

La Palma is famous for its beautiful greenery and lush cloud-forests of laurisilva that seem have popped right out of a fairytale book. On La Palma, you will also find the stunning volcanic crater of La Caldera de Taburiente – the largest erosion crater in the world, with a width of 9 km and a depth of 1500 m. This area is now designated as a natural park. The many picturesque trials and scenic routes on the island make La Palma a favourite with avid mountain walkers.

La Gomera – Canary Islands, Spain

La Gomera is a quiet, laid-back island deeply rooted in tradition. The island is famous for the peculiar whistled speech that the islanders traditionally used to communicate over long distances across the many ravines that cut into La Gomera.

El Hierro – Canary Islands, Spain

El Hierro is the smallest and westernmost island of the Canarian archipelago and is ideal as a quiet getaway location. The coastline of El Hierro, with its many cliffs contrasts sharply with the long, flat beaches typical of the Canaries. The island is home to a number of unique species, including the El Hierro Giant Lizard.
